To Rant or Not to Rant?

Rants.  Some are good and some are just noise.  I have a few rants that I’d like to write about, but I’m afraid I would just make noise and not be beneficial to anyone.  For instance, I would love to tell you how I think that too many of us believers use the phrase “I’m praying about it and waiting on God” as an excuse to be lazy and disobedient.  Or how our flirting with sin and not KILLING that sin is causing us to sin.  There there’s my general frustration as a church planter with the spiritual darkness of the city we’ve planted in.  But I won’t go there.  That’s some good stuff I’ll save for a Sunday.

Unfortunately, I’ve exposed myself to a lot of negativity lately dealing with our city, people’s spiritual disobedience, and even with a denomination that is known lately more for what they’re against than what they’re for.  I’m a glutton for punishment I suppose.

My goal is to take all this, let God turn it into something positive for His Kingdom and come out of it smelling Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.  Tomorrow I’m heading out for a day of solitude and prayer.  This will be the first of many where I’m going to get away, unplug, do some praying, and a whole lot of listening.  To say I’m looking forward to it would be an understatement.

A Few Things I’m Excited About

I haven’t done one of these in a while so I thought for this Friday I would take some time and enlighten you with a few things that are getting me jazzed.

  • New Music- Very soon (like July 14th) Project 86 will dominate the world once again with a new album that may just melt your face off.  I don’t know.  I’m just sayin.  Just out this week are the new tunes from Hillsong United, which by the way, I hear has gone to #1 on iTunes!  I’ll review the full album once I give it a few more spins.  Later this summer is the new worship album from Elevation Church’s band…the EP we got at Thr3e rocked! And finally, David Crowder Band will be gracing us with new tunes as well later this fall.
  • Hillsong United Show- Heading out to to see the boys and girls from down under bring the thunder from the Outback!  Gonna be a great time and the best part….it was free thanks to a good friend!
  • Joe’s Crab Shack- Yes, I get excited about food.  I’m probaly gonna do some work on the crab when I get hold of it.  I’m just sayin….
  • Preaching Sunday- This Sunday I get to share with The Ridge that God desires to use us and what may seem insignificant is very significant.  I love preaching to people about serving a great and powerful God!
  • The Ridge- There are amazing things happening at our church and I feel, see, and know God is gearing up and preparing us to see even greater things.
  • Fishing Season- I think in the last one of these I mentioned that I can’t wait for fishing season to get here. Some would argue that you can fish any time of year.  Yes I agree.  However, not like you can during the summer!  Trout, bass, crappie, bluegill or whatever is biting…I’m in it for all of it!
  • My Wife and Son- My wife works for the school system so she gets summers off.  I know her and Isaiah are gonna have a blast this summer and I look forward to hearing about all the fun. (And participating when I can!)
  • This Season- Life comes in seasons.  And I think that this particular season of life is gonna be a very good one in many areas.  I’m looking forward to experiencing what God has in store!

What I Look Most Forward To

Christmas always brings some sort of anticipation.
It’s that little kid in all of us that makes us get excited about the possibility that Christmas brings.
So here’s what I look most forward to…

  • Taking communion Christmas morning.
    • One of our pastors, Rusty Sampson, gave us a great way to take communion this year.   Instead of sharing it together at our service last night, he had juice and crackers wrapped in individual bags for each person to take home and to take with our families on Christmas morning.  We celebrate communion at Christmas because without the death and resurrection, there’s no Christmas.
  • Eating
    • I’m a glutton more on Christmas than Thanksgiving.  Denira’s family always has a huge meal and I love that’s always great (may do surf n turf this year!  Yeah!) My family does a Christmas breakfast and it’s seriously the best meal of the year!
  • Seeing my son celebrate his first Christmas
    • Even though he’s only 2+ months old, it’s gonna be awesome to start some new and fun Christmas traditions with him this year!
  • Down time
    • I love the down time at Christmas.  The Ridge will not meet on the 28th so we get a Sunday for our team to rest and recover.  I’m looking forward to doing some major chilling with my wife, son, and family.  Lots of sleep, football, family time, sprinkled with some video games!
  • Going Away
    • A tradition my wife and I would like to start is to go away for the weekend after Christmas. This year we would like to head up to the Smoky Mountains and spend a few days chilling and relaxing in a cabin.  Hopefully we can swing it….anyone have any ideas on a good place to stay that’s not too expensive?
It’s gonna be a sweet Christmas!  Have a great one and celebrate HIS birth!

Thank You Perry Noble

It’s funny how things come full circle in a small amount of time.
Our son, Isaiah went through a rather traumatic first 7 days of life. The result was some possible developement issues down the road.
So yesterday:
Denira: I worry sometimes that he’s not going to be ok. Why don’t you worry?
Bobby: Because if I worry I’m saying God is too small to take care of him.
D: But how do you not let it get to you?
B: Because I trust God that regardless if anything is ever wrong with him, that he’s gonna be ok because God is bigger than our worry.

Today I woke up and it’s pouring rain in Knoxville. I’ve been sick for two days and feel like poo. I can’t find my wallet…..anywhere. I still feel like poo and I won’t be eating lunch because I have no wallet. Just as I was about to utter the words….”today sucks….”
I looked at my Twitter
Perry Noble: Dear Perry-I will be running the universe today and do not desire your help-GOD!

Thank you Perry
Bobby-don’t worry about today…I’ve got this-GOD
Gotta trust God in the small things just the same as the BIG things

Catching Up…(The Williams Life and The Ridge)

In case you’ve been wondering what’s going on this side of the Tennessee, wait no longer; I’m finally going to give an UPDATE!

  • Denira, Isaiah and I have been at the hospital every day since last Wednesday.  Mostly at Children’s hospital, waiting for them to release our son.
  • Good news…he’s HOME!
  • I now know not to let Denira eat Chinese food then feed Isaiah…very bad idea
  • Being a father is very surreal…it really didn’t hit me till the other day as I was holding Isaiah and yes…I teared up just a bit.
  • I loved seeing my dad hold Isaiah for the first time…he probably won’t admit it, but I think he got a little choked up.
  • I now have my very own, living, breathing, walking and pooping sermon illustration.
  • I played some flag football with some friends last week and I think I’m still sore from it!
  • Speaking of football…I’m so stinking proud of the Clinton Dragon High School team!  They are now in 2nd place in the Region fighting for a HOME playoff game!
  • I’m a Tennessee Volunteers fan, so there isn’t much to talk about there….
  • God really pulled us through the delivery process.  I almost walked out of that hospital alone….but God made the sun stand still for us, pulling Denira and Isaiah through
  • Being back home is great, but I’m waaaaay behind on everything.
  • We have a great team at The Ridge and they made a lot of things happen while we were out…you gotta love that!
