Lyrical Throwdown: From the Inside Out (Hillsong United)

The Lyrical Throwdown returns! This week I want you to take a listen to From the Inside Out by Hillsong United. It’s one of those songs that I just NEED to hear. This has been one of those weeks. Instead of posting the lyrics, I’ve posted United doing it LIVE. So take a few minutes and give this one a listen and let it flow over you.

Feature Band of the Week: Brightgray

Out of any band I’ve ever featured here on Confessions, this band is far and above my favorite. I’m proud to call these guys friends of mine and super stoked to have the priveledge to do ministry with them from time to time. They have a HUGE heart for students and seeing people come to Jesus through their music and personal relationships with others. That’s what sets them apart from other bands. Not that other bands don’t do that, cause I’m sure they do, but I’ve seen these guys up close and it’s not a put on. It’s the real deal…every day.

Their latest album Capture has some great tunes on it! I’ve been listening to it a lot lately and the song Stay has really been getting a lot plays on my iPod. Go HERE to give them a listen on their myspace and if you’re ever looking for someone to come out to lead worship for your camp, event, or to just play a concert, you won’t be disappointed with having the boys in Brightgray out.

Lyrical Throwdown Thursday: 18 Bulletholes (Waterdeep)

Waterdeep is a band I’ve been fond of for some time now. They are completely different from anything on radio or on any chart you can scrounge up from any radio station. They are raw, eclectic, and well…deep. Take this one for a spin….

18 bullet holes in the body of a priest
They say he was eating a hot dog when the ammunition was released.
They say he was always fat and lazy but he was an awfully nice guy.
That’s just one more death to show you you never know when you’re gonna die.
You might be facing the beast

Sometimes, God, I feel like I’m living in a bone grinding mill
And every time I hear the sound I can barely stand still
It’s a thing I can’t quite make out sometimes but it seems to keep getting louder-
One more body from the valley of the dry bones getting ground up into powder
Against Your holy will

Oh, God, it hurts so bad to love anybody down here
Why don’t You come and help me out?
Cause I can’t even see clear

The funny thing about the way a girl gets destroyed
About the way that deal goes down
Is that everybody pretty much sees it coming at the sister
From all the way across town
And she isn’t always blinded, she isn’t always far astray
She just might not be thinking, she might be having a bad day
But when you choose, you choose, and when you drown, you drown

Last night I dreamed that You swallowed me into Yourself
And I was floating on the sea inside
When I landed on the shore, I saw all these people that I thought had died
I hadn’t seen some of them for ages
They had left without a single word
And when I said something to them, not a single one of them had heard

They were all looking right through everything like it wasn’t even there
Some were full of anger, some full of fear
And then I recognized that something very sad
But very beautiful was happening right here
They were all caught outside standing alone in a very heavy rain
And when a raindrop landed on my tongue
I didn’t need You to explain
That these were Your tears

Oh, God, it hurts so bad to love anybody down here
Oh, that’s right, You know so well
One thorny crown, three nails, and a spear
One thorny crown, three nails, and a spear

So….what do you think?

Lyric Throwdown Thursday: Grace Will Be My Song (Steve Fee)

This week’s offering comes from Steve Fee and is called Grace Will Be My Song. With this being “Holy Week” with Easter coming up on Sunday, this has been one in my iPod the last few days…dive in and enjoy!

EDIT: You can listen/download it HERE

This week’s offering made possible by the letter…..Q

Grace Will Be My Song
Jesus Jesus Jesus
You ransomed one like me
Jesus Jesus Jesus
Your blood my liberty
and now my shame is gone
and grace will be my song

Jesus Jesus Jesus
lover of the weak
Jesus Jesus Jesus
with strength to carry me
and now my shame is gone
and grace will be my song

glory glory glory
to the one who saved my soul
glory glory glory
to the everlasting Lord
glory glory glory
to the king who sits enthroned
our God

Lyric Throwdown Thursday

For this Thursday I thought I’d offer you some old school.  I introduce you to the band formerly known as The Normals.  You may recognize the voice; it’s Andrew Osenga.  Today’s song is an oldie but a goodie for me….The Best I Can:

I sometimes hide behind my words
Sometimes I’m round the corner from these songs
But words are only words
Like days are only days
And I’m nothing for just singing along
The air is hot in Florida
The rain is cold in Maine
The thaw is flooding Washington
And this all feels the same

But You’ve brought me to this place where there’s nothing else but faith
And this is what I have been given and I will make the best I can
There’s a joy we find in living and a love that’s in Your hand
Cason’s always talking about the sky that covers Kansas
And I wish I could be under it today
I’m tired of all the spinning lies
Tired of all this killing time
Tired of always getting in the way

I wish I could conjure up a love song
Wish I could pray the way my friends do back home
Is there a part of You that I still don’t believe
‘Cause this is not what I thought I had been praying for

CHORUS
But this is what I have been given and I will make the best I can
There’s a joy we find in living and a love that’s in Your hand

Someday some girl will find my words beautiful
Someday some son will call me dad
Someday I won’t wake to find myself lying in another cold and lonely hotel bed
Someday I’ll trade in this guitar for a city of golden praise
Someday I won’t be here any longer
Someday but this is what I have been given
And I will make the best I can
There’s a joy we find in living
And a love that’s in Your hand
