Churchplanters.com Velocity 2010 Recap: Pete Wilson
Pete Wilson is the lead pastor at Crosspoint in Nashville TN. He’s a local boy, so I dig that…well minus the whole Kentucky thing, but we can overlook that. Pete did a breakout called Nobody’s Perfect Everyone’s Welcome and Anything’s Possible. It’s a mantra they have a Crosspoint and I dig it. So much so I’m almost jealous that I didn’t come up with it. Pete had some great insight and awesome stories in his breakout. I really enjoyed it. Here’s the highlights….
- Quality community separates happy people from not so happy people
- We are created for deep connection
- We must understand the philosophy of community before the strategy
- The church must understand that EVERYONE should be welcome
- Luke 15:2 Romans 13:8
- Do we have environments where people can belong before they believe?
- People followed Jesus BEFORE they believed (they were thinking he was starting a revolution)
- We must accept that people are NOT perfect
- Pastors are notorious for confessing the “safe” sins- The ones that actually make us look more spiritual
- Luke 18: 10-14
- Comparing is a really nice way of judging
- Everyone is welcome because no one is perfect
- We must believe that anything is possible because God can change any circumstance
- Help people discover their new name ( Saul= Paul….Simon=Peter….Abram=Abraham) When God changed someone’s life, He sometimes changed their names
- Jesus came for the sick…not the healthy
