Scriptures That Have Wrecked Me
Last week I shared a few quotes that have helped shape my life, leadership or otherwise just wrecked my way doing things or thinking. Today I’d like to share just a few scriptures that over the years have done the same. Some of these are there because they inspire me. Some are there because they’ve wrecked my heart. I hope you too can find some value in these…
- Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…” Some people have Philippians 4:13 ( I can do all things through Christ…). I have Eph. 3:20. The same power that raised Jesus from the grave is the same power that can and will do more than our human minds could ever imagine. It reminds me that God is still an all powerful God.
- Romans 5:8 – “… but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” It seems as though I’ve been quoting this one a lot lately. I think it says it all about our salvation. God chose me. And He chose me in my weakest, darkest, most messed up state and still chose me. Warm fuzzies all over.
- Joshua 10: 12-14 -” At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day.14 There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel.” There’s so much implication here that I can’t even begin to get into this one. Bottom line: sometimes it takes a sun stand still kind of prayer and the Lord can STILL make it happen.
- Revelation 3:16 – “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” This one wrecks me because I don’t want it to be me. It creates a healthy fear of God. We all need that.
- Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” You don’t have to steal what God wants to GIVE you.
