The Leadership Path Part 1
Several years ago, a fellow pastor said a phrase to me (from which came from someone else, but I had never heard it) that I have not forgotten or have not put aside to be useless. It was a pretty simple, “why didn’t I know that?” kind of moment…
“Leaders are learners and learners are readers”
Dur. It’s almost too simple of an equation. But it’s so pregnant with implication.
If you want to kill your influence, or stop being able to lead others effectively, then simply stop learning from others. Basically, if you become the know-it-all, don’t tell me how to do it kind of person because you think you have all the answers, then you’ve already lost.
I’m not the leader that I could be or should be yet, but I’m constantly trying to learn and read as much as I can to be a good leader to the people that God has entrusted me with. Only those that I get to lead can say if I’m making progress. Self proclaimed good leaders have to proclaim it themselves because no one will proclaim it for them. That’s a problem.
Over the next few days I’ll tell you how God is stretching me, who and what he’s stretching me with, and how I’m continually striving to do well at leading well.
