The Church I Don’t Want To Pastor – Part 1
After reading THIS post by pastor Perry Noble, I got to thinking about the areas of our church (The Ridge) that are absolute, DO NOT FAIL AT THIS areas. I crossed Perry’s post with our core values at the Ridge and broke it down to 6 areas.
To be honest, I don’t think there is a pastor in the world that would want to pastor a church that embraces these 6 things, but for me, I KNOW I wouldn’t want to pastor THAT church. But it falls on me as the pastor and leader of the Ridge to make sure we don’t fall into these 3 traps. If we do, let’s just broadcast what we really mean….
- Making Excuses Instead of Making Changes – When things don’t work the way they should or if things start going in a direction that’s not good, the one thing I never want to do is make excuses over just getting to a solution. Excuses never bring solutions. Identify the problem, find a solution, & make the necessary changes
- No Passion For Seeking the Lost – It’s the come to us syndrome. I hate it. If I can’t cast a vision that ignites people to invite others, seek out the lost, and to do whatever it takes to see people awakened to life in Christ, then I need to check to see if my vision is burning. Passion bleeds and vision leaks.
- There Is No Urgency – Fact is, we like to think we have many days on earth. Truth is, we don’t. Every Sunday (every day for that matter) there is an opportunity to tell about the Gospel and the rescue that Jesus gives us. The time is urgent…our last breath was the last one certain. If hell is not that hot and it seems like not such a bad place, then we should just pack it up. We’ll never reach anyone.
