Honor: Open Letter to Louie Giglio
This week I am doing a series of posts on HONOR. I am writing open letters to those individuals who have greatly influenced me and my relationship with the Lord. This comes from a recent message given by pastor Steven Furtick at Elevation Church during the Old Time Religion series. To sum it up, we don’t honor those who have influenced us enough. We should do all we can to let those individuals know the impact they have had on us and the kingdom. Here’s just a little part of that…
Today’s Honor letter goes out to Louie Giglio. If anyone could ever make you love trees or far off nebula’s, it’s Louie Giglio. Louie is the head of Passion Conferences and the 268 Generation, as well as one the best speakers I’ve ever had the privledge to hear. Louie has made a HUGE impact on me and the way I speak, so here’s my open letter to Louie Giglio.
Louie,
Hello Louie! I know you have no idea who in the world I am, but I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. I want to say thank for the impact you have had on my life. I believe that as pastors, ministers and fellow believers, we sometimes forget to say thank you to those who have influenced us along the way. And you have had a GREAT influence on my life.
Some years ago, I remember getting a CD called Passion. I thought it was like some romance praise and worship stuff or something. Little did I know it would change me in so many ways. After one listen I knew right away that this was different. The lyrics were different. The artist were different. The attitude was different. I had just started playing guitar a few years before the CD came out, so the next logical thing to do was to learn every lick on the entire CD. We Fall Down still gets some play on my guitar or my iPod. Then someone let me in on a little secret; Passion was a conference and I should listen to this guy named Louie Giglio speak. And so it began….
From that point on I took every opportunity I could to listen to messages from you. Passion messages, Thirsty Conference messages, 7/22 Messages, student ministry conferences, messages you spoke at NorthPoint…if you were speaking, I was listening. And I know it wasn’t you, no offense, but I know it was the Spirit of God through you that drew me in so intently. I’m sure God could had used anyone else to speak those messages, but he chose you. He chose you because you made yourself available to His leading. And for that I thank you. Chris Tomlin said it best once when he said that no one else could make you love the smallest things like trees. I agree. God’s creative mind, putting things together like the human body or the way a flower takes in sunlight and turns it into the air we breath is something amazing that I pay more attention to now because of some the things you’ve pointed out before about God’s amazing hand of creation. I use to take those things for granted at times, but not anymore.
Louie, thank you for listening to the Lord. Thank you for taking risks and jumping at the opportunity to serve a unique, amazing Creator. Thank you for bringing guys like Charlie Hall, David Crowder Band, Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin to the rest of us. By the way, I’m so stinkin’ stoked about Charlie’s new album! Can’t wait till those songs start to resonate in my heart like all the others have! Thank you for listening to God in the vision for Passion and the 268 Generation. You see, your willingness to step out and act on what God has called you to has helped be a catalyst in changing the lives of millions of people. Yes, millions; plus one…me.
Thank you Louie Giglio
